A Guide To ADR Compliant Fire Extinguishers

A Guide To ADR Compliant Fire Extinguishers

19th Dec 2018

Safety is of the utmost importance when it comes to transporting hazardous goods. This falls under ADR compliance, which follows a set of requirements on the materials that can be transported. Some hazardous materials are flammable, so it’s a good idea to have AD compliant fire extinguishers on hand. In order to meet ADR requirements, vehicles that are carrying dangerous goods need to carry a minimum of 1 two kilo fire extinguisher. There are important vehicle safety statistics to take note of with fire extinguishers.

WHAT ARE THE STANDARDS FOR ADR COMPLIANT FIRE EXTINGUISHERS?

  • The minimum dry powder fire extinguisher provision is 2 kg for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. It’s 2kg for a cab.
  • The minimum provision is 8kg for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and up to 7.5 tonnes.
  • The minimum provision is 12kg for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes.
  • The minimum requirement for any vehicle carrying dangerous goods under the ‘small load’ limit is 2kg.

At BSeenBSafe, we specialise in selling a number of ADR approved fire extinguishers. We’ve put together a product guide and how each one can be used for safety purposes.

WHAT FIRE EXTINGUISHER TYPES DO WE SELL?

2 KG DRY POWDER FIRE EXTINGUISHER

The 2KG dry powder fire extinguisher meets the minimum ADR requirements. It can be used to put out class A, B and C fires. Class A fires are the most common and are normally caused by combustible objects like paper and wood. Class B fires are started by flammable liquids such as petrol, while class C fires are caused by flammable gases such as petroleum and propane.

The 2 kg fire extinguisher is suitable for fires that break out in commercial and business environments. It’s effective in fires that have been caused by liquids, making it ideal for protecting a vehicle. With an average discharge time of nine seconds, this fire extinguisher is an invaluable product.

6 KG DRY POWDER FIRE EXTINGUISHER

The 6 kg extinguisher is kitemark certified to BSEN3, which means it meets industry safety standards. Suitable against class A, B and C fires, this extinguisher has an average discharge time of 15 seconds. In addition to offering vehicle protection, it can be used in office and industrial settings. The 6kg extinguisher is highly effective against fires that have been caused by liquids such as petrol.

9 KG DRY POWDER FIRE EXTINGUISHER

This extinguisher is useful for putting out fires in business, commercial and industrial environments. Whether it’s a Class A fire or petrol-related blaze, the 9kg extinguisher can be used in different situations. It comes with a quality kitemark certified to BSEN3, meaning it adheres to ADR standards.

The extinguisher is suitable for a vehicle because it’s effective against liquid based fires. Class B fires are common in vehicles, so it’s a product worth investing in.
